Clubs built, repaired & tuned
In the pursuit of par

My Story

My love for golf started with an accident.

My pursuit of par has been about more than just numbers on a scorecard—the game’s complexity has sparked my curiosity, tested my patience, and given me a craft to master. What started as tinkering with my gear grew into a workshop dedicated to building, repairing, and tuning clubs to enhance confidence, feel, and performance. All in the name of shaving a few more strokes off my score.

So...to support this chase I recently..

  • Completed the Mitchell Golf 5-Day Master Class in club repair, alteration, building, and fitting.

  • Built The Irish Par Golf Workshop and Studio — a place where precision adjustments in loft, lie, swingweight, and shaft tuning become the difference between guessing and confidence.

  • Launched TIP - an AI-powered Digital Caddie that helps me to reflect on rounds, analyze performance, and prescribe targeted drills, stretches, and training for continual improvement.

  • Designed stretch and strength programs tailored for golf, helping me to unlock flexibility, mobility, and power.

  • Developed structured golf drill systems focused on swing mechanics and situational skills, turning practice into progress.

and with all of this,
The Irish Par Golf Workshop and Studio
was started

But how did I get here...2008 — Pickering Valley, PA
I bought my first set of golf clubs on the way to a round with workmates at Pickering Valley Golf Club (PA). I unwrapped them in the car park, didn't fully know what I was doing and shot 130+. I liked the game but found myself playing maximum a couple of rounds a year.

2015 — PCGC
Early rounds at PCGC, still finding my swing and love for the game.
2016 — Pine Barrens, NC
I was invited to join a group of friends at their Annual Golf trip. This one was in Pinehurst, NC and the group assigned a 30 HC to me. Surprisingly, I won the tournment and took home a green jacket and a sincere interest in improving my game. I started to look for more opportunities to get on a course.

2017 — Pinehurst, NC
I returned to defend my win in Pinehurst (NC) with an improved 25 handicap. I was objectively better, but I lost. I had to pass on the jacket and started to understand the complex relationship so many golfers have with their game.

2018 — Breakthrough Year
On the third trip, I nearly had a hole-in-one. Pinehurst (NC) had lessons for me about patience and the grind but no win. At a 22-handicap (my lowest ever at this point) my game was still improving, but golf was always going to be second to football (American translation: soccer) for me.

2019 — Broken Collarbone
A broken collarbone in the fall brought an end to my football career. Recovery gave me time to focus on golf. That spring we took the annual trip to Myrtle Beach (NC), and I brought home my second win and a cool flag signed by everyone. It's up in my workshop.

2020 — The Springhaven Club
Golf was one of the only activities available during COVID, and I wanted to play more. I joined The Springhaven Club in the fall with a 28-handicap. My golf journey (and camera roll) radically changed from this point forward.

2021 — Firsts
This was my first summer golfing more than a couple of times a month and I played 60+ rounds this year with a varied cast of largely enjoyable characters. I also won a Member Guest Tournament with friends from the annual trip. By the end of the season, I was an 18 handicap and focusing more on improving.

2022 — Competitive Spark
Rain, cold and wind rarely stopped my golfing. I logged 65+ rounds and was a 14- handicap. We came close to going back-to-back in the Member Guest Tournament and I won hardware with my partner at the 118 th Anniversary Tournament. I enjoyed my first PGA event when I was able to attend the BMW Championship at Wilmington Country Club.

2023 — Expanding the Journey
I played in Ireland for the first time visiting Ballybunion and Tralee with childhood friends. Golfing in Ireland was special, and I went back again later in the year to play Royal County Down. In Southern Pines (NC), I won the annual trip for the third time. At home, which is how I was starting to think about Springhaven’s course, I was part of the winning team in the Ryder Cup playing golf as a team sport. I started getting more interested in equipment and the course. I joined the Greens Committee at Springhaven.

2024 — Achievements & Growth
I’ve continued to take every opportunity to play and be around the game. I won my first match play tournament which had a death match of a 77 vs a 77 in competition and I started to believe I might be able to shoot and or break par.

2025 — Today
This year brough my first 'win' as a caddy, that was exciting and showed another side to the game. I'm playing to a 6.2 on a good day but still chasing the elusive even-par round — my personal best so far is 73.

2025 - The Springhaven Club Board of GovernorsWhat an honor - "The Board has unanimously nominated Gavin O'Leary. We welcome Gavin to the Board and look forward to the contributions he will bring to our organization."
